… in the strap that you got in the box with your camera.

I believed in the original Nikon strap I got for my Nikon D40, I trusted it, and it betrayed my trust. Standing at the cashier in Borders I just felt it move, then rush, and my precious Nikon was on the floor.

Now it is multifunctional, if I shake it it acts like a maraca. If I take off the lens – not too difficult anymore, I just push it and it comes off right away, no need to press the release button – I can use them as maracas. Meh.

Something broke in the lens and something broke in the frame too. It works, I can take photos with it, but I would rather not. And had no time to take it to the Nikon repair shop.

So, an advice to photographers – don’t trust the original straps, buy or make some good ones, tie them tight and weld them to the machine. Or something. Hearing your treasured camera hit the floor is not the best thing in your life.

The last photo I took with my Nikon D40.

I liked you. Rest in pieces. *smirk*

I know, I know. It’s not really the 2nd, it’s more like the 4th, it’s just now I am upturning my life so I skipped 3 weeks. My bad.

Now it is not inside the house, I know, but I just had to make this shot. I will be honest, I completely forgot tht this little plant has been put in the garden.

And it is a sturdy one, all the stormy winds could not break it.

It’s a Salix caprea if I am not mistaken (barka) in hungarian, never learned the latin name, can’t find the english one, but I think this is Salix caprea. If I am wrong, please, correct me.

Just finished The Slave from Roddy Doyle and – beside recommending it to everyone – it got me thinking. A lot.

So here I call you to a small exercise – make one photo each week, a photo of you own home. No fancy, new, unkown places. Strictly your own flat and the house you live in, the things you see every day, the all too familiar corners. Make a photo and learn to see your place in a new light.

Find the funny cracks, the weird looking corner in the backroom, the discoloured patch on the wall that looks just too weird in the evening light. Learn to see your home again, instead of just looking at it.

And when you finish, tell me if it has changed anything about how you see your place.

I am sorting out my photos on flickr, placing them in sets and collection and I just started to place them on the map when I hit a really, really hard problem.
See, I got hundreds of photos from my last vacation, all nice and uploaded to flickr, and they even have tags and all, and they are in the correct set – photos from Madrid are in the Madrid set, Barcelona pics in the Barcelona, etc -, but there are loads that I can’t place on the map.

10 years, or even 2 years ago it would not have bothered me. They were taken in Barcelona, see, they look good, and I wish I was back there.
But now, I just sit here, staring at the map, trying to remember where did I take this photo? The thing is, if you put me down in Barcelona, or Madrid, or Paris, I would find the place again without fail, but now on the map it is rather hard. And what good is a map if you can’t place the picture at the exact right spot?

In May I’ll go to France to visit a friend, and I am sure I will make a lot of pictures again, and this time I want to know where I take them, so I could place them on the map. For that I will need a way to record the GPS coordinates to the photo, but I don’t know how to do that. I don’t own an expensive camera which has a function like that, all I got is a Canon PS A530, and hopefully I wil own a Nikon D40 by then, but neither of those have a built-in GPS, and I don’t know any gadgets that can be connected to them.

Is there any sensible way? Anyone got a tip?
